Rediscover Cave Junction & The Illinois Valley - It's the lifestyle! Oregon's friendliest city where neighbors help neighbors.
Cave Junction has the potential to be an exemplary model of what a small town can achieve, fostering a community renowned for its safety, warmth, and livability. Why not strive for this vision in Cave Junction? By effectively addressing the challenges our community faces, we can set a precedent for other Oregon communities to follow, potentially creating a ripple effect of engagement and improvement across the state.
As mayor, I will collaborate with the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office, local businesses, and residents to develop a strategic approach to Cave Junction public safety. I will investigate the feasibility of contracting a dedicated part-time prosecutor specifically for our town, aiming to enhance accountability and tackle repeat criminal behavior.
Furthermore, I will review the city’s ordinances on unlawful conduct, obstruction, and loitering to identify opportunities for strengthening and fairly enforcing these regulations. It is crucial that we respect everyone’s rights while ensuring that criminal activity, harassment, vandalism, and acts threatening public safety do not disrupt our streets, parks, and businesses.
Cave Junction deserves more than just temporary solutions. We need a comprehensive plan that includes prevention, consistent enforcement, prosecution, accountability, and pathways for individuals seeking genuine assistance. Together, we can enhance the small town livability of Cave Junction, making it a safer and more enjoyable place to live, work, raise a family, and operate a business.
We need a visitor gazebo with several parking spaces at each end of town. Each location could feature a map highlighting outdoor recreation, attractions within a couple of hours’ drive, and the history of our area. The reverse side could display brochures from local businesses. This could make the difference between travelers simply passing through and stopping to explore and support our community.
I also believe Cave Junction should rebrand itself and launch a campaign promoting our safe, livable city. Safety and livability are not only public-policy goals; they are part of the lifestyle we want to offer residents, families, visitors, and businesses. By highlighting our community’s strengths, supporting local businesses, welcoming visitors, and sharing the progress we make, we can change the way people see Cave Junction and build pride among the people who call it home.
This campaign should be grounded in real results. It should promote clean and welcoming public spaces, responsible community standards, local events, outdoor recreation, small businesses, and the quality of life that makes Cave Junction special. With coordinated leadership, community participation, and a clear message, we can establish Cave Junction as a safe, welcoming, and livable city and as a model for what a small Oregon community can accomplish.
